Surrendering to the Spirit
Welcome! I pray that the Holy Spirit gives me the right words to say so that you are blessed by this. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
I am grateful for the Bible App on my phone, which sends me a Scripture of the Day. One evening, I opened it to Luke 9:23-27. Although I had read this passage before, this time, I took the time to truly read and understand it in a deeper way.
In this chapter, Jesus was with His twelve disciples. He had already granted them the power to cast out demons and heal the sick. They traveled, performing miracles and healing many people. Eventually, they returned to Bethsaida (modern-day Sea of Galilee), where Jesus performed one of His most well-known miracles—feeding five thousand men with only five loaves of bread and two fish.
At this moment, Jesus revealed something profound: His death was near. Yet, He instructed His disciples not to tell anyone (Luke 9:21-22).
What It Means to Follow Christ
Continuing in Luke 9:23-27, Jesus told them:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self? Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
These verses came alive for me in a way they never had before. God calls us to let go of worldly distractions—things that pull us away from Him—so that we can fully surrender to His Spirit and the eternal life He promises.
Where Is Our Focus?
How often do we chase after the things of this world—material wealth, status, and pleasure—without realizing that none of it will follow us into eternity?
Even more importantly, if we are not boldly sharing God's truth, how can we expect Him to embrace us into His Kingdom?
"Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels."
These words are a call to action—to stand boldly in faith, proclaiming His truth without fear or hesitation.
Surrender & Choose God Daily
God has the power to bless us with a full and prosperous life on earth, but even so, our true hope lies in eternity. Jesus made it clear: Some standing with Him that day would not die before they saw the Kingdom of God.
Every day, we have the power of choice. Will we surrender to the Holy Spirit? Will we trust God with our whole hearts?
As we strive to choose Him daily, may we be filled with a desire for the eternal life that comes from faith, a life full of joy, purpose, and blessings.
God bless you!
Peace, love, and prayers.
